2025 - Dot Com Discount Registration

Getir (which means “bring” in Turkish) is a Turkish start-up founded in 2015. Through its mobile app, it offers an on-demand delivery service for grocery items and a courier service for restaurant food deliveries.

Since its inception in 2015, the company has managed to raise $2 Billion USD in funds and has a Unicorn Valuation of over $12 Billion USD.

They have operated here in the UK since acquiring a smaller startup named Weezy which they bought in 2021 and use the local ccTLD Getir.uk

So I was checking out if they also owned the matching dot com and yes they do the company owns Getir.com the domain name was originally part of the Marchex Domain Name portfolio and has been registered since 2002, with the company being only established in 2015 I guessed they must have acquired the domain name Getir on the secondary market and I was correct.

Getir.com was purchased via Sedo.com for $15,000 USD on the 6th of March 2015.

This was a domain name that was part of the original legendary domain name investors portfolio Yun Ye who sold his portfolio to Marchex for over $164 Million USD way back in the day when PPC earnings were good and Yun Ye was reportedly earning $19 Million in profits per year from his $20 Million in PPC ad income.

I am sure some would say Getir.com was a cheap sale now the company is worth $12 Billion but who would have known at the time in 2015, that getting 15K to would have seemed like a good price for this dotcom, do you agree?
